The investigators said that the driver, a 24-year-old man from Paramount, traveled south in the northbound lane of the freeway in a 2008 BMW. The act placed him directly in the path of a 2014 Subaru, north of Hollywood Boulevard.

The two vehicles collided, and the crash also impacted two other cars. Chiapuzio suffered significant injuries, and medics took him to the hospital for treatment. The BMW driver died at the scene, and the CHP will release his name after notifying the next-of-kin.

The affected lanes of the freeway stayed close until about 4:45 a.m. Anyone who witnessed the accident should contact the highway patrol Central Los Angeles Office on the listed line.

Wrong-way driving is one of the common causes of traffic collisions in California. Other factors are running red lights, tailgating, illegal lane change, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and driving outside the speed limit.

Drivers have to mitigate the above by obeying traffic rules and regulations and prioritizing safety. Failure to do this leads to an accident and adverse legal consequences.
