According to the Costa Mesa Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team, they arrived at the scene around 11:30 p.m. after a report of a bicycle colliding with a tow truck. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Blauer lying on the roadway, and determined that he passed away.

The driver of the tow truck was not injured and remained at the crash site while the officers carried out their preliminary investigation. The police determined that the motorist was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the occurrence, and didn’t make an arrest.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the collision and has relevant information for the police should contact the CMPD traffic investigator Darren Wood on the listed line.

Bicycle riders are prone to sustain different degrees of injuries when an accident occurs, and often, it ends in a fatality. To this end, bicyclists must protect themselves by wearing a fitted helmet, protective clothing, and sticking to the bicycle lane.
