Police are yet to share more details about the incident. So far, authorities have confirmed that this was a rollover crash which left Hanson with injuries. Once the first responders and paramedics arrived on the scene of the crash, Hanson was transported to the OSF Healthcare Saint Francis Medical Center.

Deputies with the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash. One of the deputies suspected that Hanson may have been driving under the influence. However, the officer cited the lack of adequate evidence as the reason he let Hanson go.

As Hanson was receiving treatment at the hospital, chemical testing was performed on him to ascertain his blood alcohol levels. The samples have been sent to the Illinois State Lab and are expected to come back with results within three to five weeks.

The Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident. According to Sheriff Brian Asbell, a follow-up on the accident will be ensured once the lab tests return. The subsequent accident reports, in the light of these results, may confirm whether or not Chief Hanson was under the influence when the accident took place.
