A man lost his life in a Pike County crash that occurred on Monday, September 21 as per the accident reports. The Pike County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as Austin M. Sherfy, 29, of Barry.
According to the details shared by the Illinois State Police, Sherfy was traveling westbound on the Illinois Route 106. The vehicle he was driving was identified by ISP as a 2017 Kia. As Sherfy was driving east of Pittsfield, he appears to have lost control of the vehicle. It is not known what caused him to lose control.

The Kia veered away from the roadway and overturned. It then came to rest in a soybean field by the roadside. As the vehicle rolled over, Sherfy was ejected. The incident occurred around noon and was reported to the authorities at around 11:30 a.m.
By the time the first responders and paramedics arrived on the scene of the crash, Sherfy had succumbed to his injuries. The Pike County Coroner’s office pronounced him deceased on the scene of the accident.
No other vehicles or persons were involved in the crash. Authorities continue to investigate the incident. The investigations are being led by the ISP.
At this time, the focus of the investigations is to determine precisely what caused Austin M. Sherfy to lose control of the vehicle. ISP has not ruled our speed and alcohol, which are common contributing factors in single-vehicle crashes. Once the investigations conclude, ISP may confirm a definite cause of crash in its subsequent accident reports.
