The collision took place close to the Casino Del Sol at Ignacio M. Baumea. It was reported to the authorities at around 7 a.m. It isn’t clear exactly how the collision occurred. Jose Arvizu sustained critical injuries in the crash. Once the first responders arrived on the scene, attempts to revive him failed. He died shortly afterwards at the scene.

The driver of the minivan was identified as Mario Humo, 44. Following preliminary investigations on the site, Traffic Unit detectives with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department concluded that Humo was negligent and caused the fatal crash. He was subsequently charged with manslaughter. The deputies then escorted Humo to the Pima County Adult Detention Complex where he was booked.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident. If the charges against Humo are confirmed, he stands to face stiff penalties as per Arizona laws. The state laws stipulate that the penalties for vehicular manslaughter include a prison sentence of 7 to 21 years. The actual sentence depends on the degree of negligence proved against the suspect in a given case.
