The crash happened around 1 p.m. on Illinois 161, about a tenth of a mile away from Germantown, Illinois.

After the accident, emergency responders took Gebke to St. Louis University Hospital, where he died, according to Dan Travous, the Clinton County acting chief deputy.

Crash Details

The sheriff’s department arrived on the scene to find three cars involved in the crash.

According to Travous, Gebke’s truck was headed east on the highway. Gebke then crossed the centerline of the road. His vehicle hit two cars that were headed west.

Gebke’s actions caused him to collide head-on with Qualls’ car. Qualls is now recovering at St. Louis University Hospital. Qualls had three passengers in her vehicle, an adult and three children. Her three passengers received injuries that were not life-threatening.

Another motorist involved in the crash was Agnes Schrage, 69, from Breese, Illinois. Her injuries were not life-threatening, either, and she received treatment for her injuries at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

According to Travous, Gebke was driving to work at the time of the crash. Authorities do not know why Gebke crossed the centerline. However, they believe he was driving recklessly.
