Two people killed in a head-on collision on Highway 299 in Shasta County, California, were identified on Tuesday evening, August 18th. The Shasta County Coroner’s Office revealed their identity as Donna Marie Daly Nisson, 63, of Redding, and Terry Hugh Hitchcock, 67, of Anderson.

The car accident report disclosed that Nisson drove a Toyota Camry east on Highway 299 near Buckhorn Summit around 2:38 p.m. on Friday, August14th. According to an earlier report by the California Highway Patrol, the car crossed into the oncoming lanes for unknown reasons on a sweeping right turn and collided with a Ford F-150 pickup.

Both vehicles caught fire, and the flames spread to nearby vegetation on the right-hand shoulder. The female victim and Hitchcock died at the scene, and the medics pronounced them. The report stated that Nisson worked as the Trinity County District Attorney.

Colleagues paid tributes to the woman Tuesday after the coroner positively identified her. Stephen H. Baker, the longest sitting Superior Court Judge on the Shasta County Superior Court Bench, described the victim as a great, passionate attorney who zealously advocated for the people of the state of California.

Nisson worked as a prosecutor for about 32 years after getting admitted into the California State Bar in ’82. The Trinity County Board of Supervisors selected the woman as the DA in July 2018, and she took the oath of office in September 2018. Her term was supposed to last until December 2022.
