When the San Bernardino County Fire Department officials and paramedics arrived at the scene, they found the bicyclist lying in the 1600-block of the road. Trujillo was severely injured, and the medics pronounced him dead at about 12:04 a.m. on Monday.

The police did not mention if the driver involved stopped after hitting the man or remained at the scene. The cause of the tragic incident remains under investigation.

When an accident occurs, those involved feel several emotions, including fear and panic. The two sometimes make a person leave the crash site, contrary to the California Vehicle Code’s provisions. Leaving the scene of an accident amounts to a hit-and-run offense, and the offender would face severe legal consequences.

If a person has no liability in an accident but leaves the scene without making a report or talking to the relevant authorities, he or she would also be liable for a hit-and-run offense. An offender can also face a civil lawsuit from a victim to recover damages for the loss suffered.
