On Thursday night, July 2nd, an auto-motorcycle crash in Visalia, California, claimed the life of a male motorcycle rider and sent a driver to jail. The Visalia Police Department has not released the victim’s identity, but they named Bryan Buhl, 42, as the man who struck him.

According to the investigating officers, the accident happened at about 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of Caldwell Avenue and West Street. Buhl, who was westbound on Caldwell, failed to stop for a red light on West. He attempted a U-turn, which took him straight into the path of the motorcycle rider heading east.

The victim sustained fatal wounds, and medical personnel at an undisclosed hospital pronounced him dead. Buhl admitted to the police that he disobeyed the red light, and consumed alcohol before driving. Officers placed him under arrest and booked him into the Tulare County Jail on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

The crash led to the closure of roads in the area for several hours while the investigators gathered evidence and cleared the scene. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with helpful information should contact the Visalia PD on the listed line.

A charge of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated is a severe offense under the California Penal Code, punishable with imprisonment and a fine. A guilty person might also face a civil lawsuit from the victim’s family or representatives with the help of auto accident attorneys to recover damages for the loss suffered.
