The police said that the preliminary investigation uncovered that Pelayo was traveling on the eastbound lane of 23rd Street at top speed when he failed to negotiate a curve on the roadway. His vehicle struck a curb, flipped over, and ejected the victim in the process.
Pelayo was the only occupant of the car, and the BPD said that the first responders pronounced him dead at the scene. At this time, the investigators have not discovered if drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident, but the investigation is ongoing.
The police have not located any witnesses to the crash and have asked anyone with information to come forward and contact the BPD on the listed line.
Speed is one of the leading causes of crash-related deaths in California and the United States. It is sometimes the result of reckless driving and impairment due to illegal drug consumption or alcohol intoxication. Law enforcement and traffic agencies advise drivers to regularly maintain the roadway’s legal speed limit for their safety and that of other road users.
