A recent car accident report provided by the LAPD confirmed the identity of a motorist who died while fleeing the scene of an earlier crash in West Lake, California. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office identified the man on Tuesday, June 16, as Jeremiah Bass, 27.

The incident occurred at about 7:45 a.m. on Friday, June 12, as stated in the reports. The Los Angeles Police Department said the victim ended up hospitalized after sustaining life-threatening injuries in a two-vehicle collision. The encounter, which later claimed Bass’ life, played out in the 2600 block of West Temple Street.

LAPD officials reported that the victim was initially involved in a collision with another vehicle a few miles away from the wreckage. He, however, fled the scene in his Lexus without stopping to access the damages or report the car accident. The motorist operating the other vehicle notified a sheriff’s deputy who was passing by in a cruiser at the time.

The deputy attempted to get the fleeing motorist to pull over, to no avail, the reports showed. Bass continued driving onto southbound Benton Way and then onto West Temple Street, where he hit a road dip.

As a result, the driver lost control of his vehicle, which swerved sideways and collided head-on with an oncoming car. The Lexus then overturned and went ablaze. The driver of the second vehicle involved in the traffic collision emerged from the wreckage unhurt.

The LAPD and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the incident.
