Police have arrested a man on drunk driving charges in connection to a fatal three-vehicle wreck Tuesday on a state highway near Crystal Lake.
Authorities allege that Robert Roth, 69, of Crystal Lake, was intoxicated when he crashed into another vehicle on Illinois 31, causing a chain-reaction wreck Tuesday in which a motorcyclist was killed. He and his drunk driving attorney are due back in court later this month.

The Crystal Lake Police Department reported that Roth was driving on the highway near Drake Drive at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday when he struck another northbound vehicle. The force of the collision forced the second vehicle into the southbound lane of traffic, authorities said.
Police said the second vehicle struck a southbound motorcycle, which was being operated by an adult man. The motorcyclist, whom authorities have not yet identified publicly, was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries.
It’s unclear from information released by authorities this week whether anyone else was injured in the wreck.
Roth was arrested after the crash on several charges, including aggravated driving under the influence resulting in the death of another person and several additional DUI-related charges, according to court records. He was transported to McHenry County Jail to await a bond hearing with his drunk driving attorney.
The incident remains under investigation by the Crystal Lake Police Department and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office, authorities said.
