Updated reports of an accident that took place late last year in Santa Barbara, California, confirmed the suspect is set for arraignment in August. In a news release, the Santa Barbara County District Attorneys’ office said on Monday, June 1, that a new complaint brought against the suspect charges her with vehicular manslaughter.
The defendant, Aura Leticia Mijangos, a 61-year-old woman from Goleta, reportedly drove a Metropolitan Transit District bus into two pedestrians on October 9, 2019. The complaint accuses the MTD bus driver of gross negligence, leading to the death of a 67-year-old woman, Eve Debra, thereby violating the PC section 192 (C)(2), which is a misdemeanor.

Court records show that the suspect was operating an MTD bus in the area of Chapala Street and West Figueroa Street when the tragedy happened. Mijangos allegedly failed to stop her vehicle in time from hitting two people standing at a bus stop near the first block of West Figueroa Street. The accident happened a few miles from the MTD Transit Center.
As a result of the impact, several commuters inside the vehicle ended up severely injured. Debra, who was one of the pedestrians hit, died from her injuries, while the other was in critical condition, as affirmed by the accident reports supplied last year.
The California Highway Patrol and the Santa Barbara Police Department investigated the fatal incident. Deputy DA, Sarah Barkley, is in charge of prosecuting the case. Mijangos has an arraignment in Department 8 of the Santa Barbara Superior Court on August 17 this year.
