San Marcos Police officers are investigating an overnight hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a pedestrian in San Marcos, Texas. Police recorded the incident, which requires the intervention of a top accident lawyer, on Monday night, June 1.
Officers responded to the crash shortly after 10 p.m. on reports of a serious injury crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. When officers arrived at the location, they found the scene as described, with the victim lying on the roadway, near the 1600 block of Post Road.

Preliminary investigations showed that the victim, identified as Dwight Garrett Tomas, of San Marcos, was walking alongside another pedestrian on Post Road. Police said the two men were walking either on the sidewalk or in the bicycle lane at the time. Suddenly, an approaching vehicle came along and knocked down one of the two pedestrians, causing major injuries.
The motorist fled the scene without stopping to assist the injured man. Evidence collected at the scene suggests the vehicle may have been a maroon 200-2005 Ford Explorer or a Sport Trac model. Detectives said the car would have front end damages, and possibly, a missing the right front-side turn signal housing. The headlight of the vehicle may also be broken. Witnesses told police they last saw the car heading inbound on Post Road, en route San Marcos.
