The accident occurred early on Friday in the 2300 block of Trace Meadows Drive where Mitchell resided.
Muchinski allegedly called 911 about 2:15 a.m. to say that he had run over his girlfriend as he tried to escape an argument.
He reportedly said he and Mitchell went to a nightclub in Huntsville earlier in the night and he had three cocktails. Muchinski said the two got into an argument over whether he would get her alcohol.
Police accident reports said the couple left Huntsville around midnight and returned to College Station.
The two were still arguing by the time Muchinski took Mitchell to her home.
For some reason, Mitchell climbed into the bed of the pickup at one point. She then got out and as Mitchell drove off, she reportedly started running next to the truck.
When officers got to the scene, they found Mushinski standing behind his vehicle while the young woman was unconscious in the street. She later died in a local hospital.
Mushinski was first arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. However, the manslaughter charge came after police determined that he drove his vehicle near Mitchell in a way that led him to strike her or drive over her, thus causing her death.
Manslaughter is a second-degree felony in Texas and it’s punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a maximum fine of $10,000.
It is not yet known whether the young woman’s family will file a wrongful death lawsuit.
