Initial reports obtained from the Chico Police Department suggested the woman rode her bicycle into a slow-moving SUV after losing control of the bike.

The SUV, before the accident, was traveling through Humboldt and almost drove into the path of another bicycle rider near Malloy Creek Trail. However, the motorist slowed down in time to avoid a collision. Ruby, who was also riding in the area, crashed into the SUV almost immediately. She suffered critical injuries in the encounter.

Paramedics arrived at the scene not long after and determined Ruby was still alive. They rushed her to Enloe Medical Center via an ambulance. Sadly, doctors were unable to save the accident victim, who passed away shortly after her arrival.

Meanwhile, the operator of the SUV, whose name remains undisclosed, was not harmed in the collision. The motorist stayed at the scene until the police arrived. Detectives believe the driver was not under the influence of alcohol or any controlled substance. Speed also did not appear to have contributed.

A bicycle accident attorney can look into the wreck, and determine what caused Ruby to swerve and lose control of her bike. If the fault lies with a factor outside the control of the victim, then a wrongful death lawsuit may be filed.
