The woman sustained critical injuries as a result. When emergency responders arrived at the crash scene, they took her to a medical facility where she received treatment. She continues to recover and looks likely to survive.
Meanwhile, Espino reported himself to the Tempe police some hours after the crash, confessing to the hit-and-run. He was arrested and charged with DUI. Aggravated assault and felony hit-and-run. No other information about the accident is available at this time.
Many drivers involved in accidents flee the scene after the occurrence of a crash. This behavior may be down to several misconceptions and fear that they may have. However, the law frowns against the behavior, and there are severe punishments for those that do so.
Soon after a crash, the right thing to do is to seek medical care if injured and wait for the police to arrive. Only depart from the accident scene if the police grant permission. Any driver charged with DUI will require the professional services of a drunk driving attorney during legal proceedings.
