The defiance caused the young man to strike a short wall divider at the intersection’s south side, leaving him with extensive injuries. The Orange County firefighters arrived at the scene after receiving a 911 call of the accident and performed life-saving measures on Mendez.
Sadly, their efforts were in vain as the man passed away from his injuries. I. Chavez, the Supervising Deputy Orange County Coroner, identified the deceased. The police believe that the victim was intoxicated at the time of the crash, but they did not reveal if there will be a toxicology test to confirm.
The deceased was the sole occupant of his vehicle, and there’s no evidence that another motorist was involved. The investigation remains ongoing.
Intoxication is one of the leading causes of motor vehicle accidents, as seen in accident reports. The state of California prohibits drivers from driving with .08% and above blood alcohol content. Those caught violating the law are liable to lose their driving privileges amid other punishments.
