The impact of the collision with the animal caused the Jeep to swerve, hit a guardrail, and overturn. Siebert and Lohman were ejected from the vehicle and ended on the roadway. The former died at the scene from his injuries, while the latter made it alive to the hospital, but with life-threatening wounds.
The police have not determined between Siebert and Lohman, who was behind the wheel of the car. The investigation remains open, and the investigators will release an update at a later date.
In states like Illinois, deer and other wildlife sometimes leave the bush and appear on the roadway. Bi-state drivers sight the animals mostly between October and December, as stated in various car accident reports.
A sighting often leads to accidents; thus, law enforcement agencies share tips on the best ways to mitigate the problem. They include paying attention to the road when driving, maintaining a safe speed, and using bright lights at dusk and hours before dawn.
