Police arrested the driver, 29-year-old Justin Antwan Jackson. He is accused of failing to stop and render aid in an accident involving death.
According to the arrest affidavit, Jackson was driving south when he neared Falkenburg’s stalled Ford Fiesta. The vehicle’s hazard lights were on.
However, Jackson told police another car appeared to be crossing into his lane and he tried to avoid it. The affidavit said he didn’t see the Ford until it was too late to stop.
The truck struck the back of the Ford with such force that the trunk of the car collapsed almost into the front seats.
The authorities said the impact caused the car to spin counter-clockwise and get shoved sideways for 200 feet.
Jackson allegedly left the scene, but the authorities found him in downtown San Antonio and took him into custody.
The affidavit said the suspect admitted to his actions but said he left the scene to pursue the vehicle that he had to avoid.
Jackson said he was not sure if the Ford was occupied and he only found out someone died through the news, according to court documents.
However, officials said Jackson called his wife and employer but never called 911, accident reports say.
Falkenberg’s family may be able to file a wrongful death claim with help from a car accident lawyer.
