The Clark County Coroner’s Office said Maloney’s manner and cause of death were pending.
Witnesses said a Nissan Altima had pulled over and was facing east on the right shoulder of the road.
Maloney’s Harley Davidson was going east on Lake Mead when the Nissan made a U-turn as the driver sought to go west.
The driver, 27-year-old Luis Osorio, allegedly pulled out in front of Maloney.
This caused the bike to hit the car’s left front section and the motorcyclist was ejected.
Maloney, who relatives said was known as ‘Motorcycle Man’, was pronounced dead at the scene.
He was married and had three children. They may be able to get compensation for their losses with help from a car accident lawyer.
Meanwhile, Osorio is facing a charge of DUI resulting in death. He is also charged with making an illegal U-turn and was taken into custody at the Clark County Detention Center.
He is being held on a $150,000 bond.
In Nevada, a DUI resulting in death is a felony. A driver who is convicted will spend between two and 20 years in prison. They will also have to pay a fine of $2,000 to $5,000.
