The reports of the earlier crash stated that one of the occupants of the Impala brandished a handgun. When the police saw the vehicle, they followed it northbound on IL Rt. 2. From there, Stephenson County Deputies continued the pursuit near Winneshiek Road, down the southbound US Rt. 20.
They were going at 120 miles per hour as they approached the Village of Winnebago. The officers terminated the chase at this point for safety reasons as Brown drove recklessly through the village. A short time after, the man crashed into a ditch at Calvary Cemetery.
The police arrested and charged the suspect with aggravated fleeing. The investigators recovered a 9mm pistol near the site of the crash, and further investigation showed that he had an outstanding warrant in Freeport.
Two teenage boys aged 16 and 17 were in the Impala with brown, and the authorities handed them over to family members. There is no information on any citation or charge against the two.
