After striking the boy, the GMC driver did not stop to help him, but fled the scene, driving southwards on Chestnut. When paramedics arrived at the scene, they found the victim seriously injured and transported him to a hospital, where he died. The CHP is continuing with investigations into the crash and hopes to track down the suspect.

It is against the law and an irresponsible act for someone involved in an accident to flee the scene of a crash. If involved in a collision, call emergency response officers and seek medical attention if hurt. Wait for the police to arrive at the scene of the incident and describe the details to them.

If possible, take photographs of the vehicles involved and also get the statements from eyewitnesses. Do not leave the scene unless the police permits you to. It is also essential to file accident reports after a crash, stating clearly the happenings before and after its occurrence.

People who flee accident scenes when caught, face criminal charges that could lead to severe punishments, including jail time.
