Armstrong was walking on the highway when a 2012 Nissan Versa driven by a woman identified as a 23-year-old Bethel Island resident struck him. The man sustained severe wounds that claimed his life at the scene, and the medics pronounced him.
The CHP said that the driver of the Nissan sustained significant but non-life-threatening injuries. They did not provide the details of what led the woman to strike Armstrong or if she would face charges. The investigation remains active.

People walking on the road should avoid jaywalking, stay off their phones, and look left-right-left before crossing, even at designated crosswalks.
Drivers should drive within the speed limit, avoid driving drunk or on drugs, yield to pedestrians, and back up cautiously. Motorists who are at fault when an auto-pedestrian collision occurs should acquire the services of auto accident attorneys for legal advice and representation.
