Smith at about 4 p.m. Saturday was southbound on Washington 3 when she lost control of her vehicle near Washington 303, troopers said. Smith’s vehicle drifted across the centerline into another southbound lane, where she struck another vehicle, according to car accident reports.
Smith was taken via air ambulance to a Seattle hospital, where she later succumbed to her wounds, troopers said.
Two occupants of the second vehicle also were treated by emergency medical personnel. Car accident reports said the driver, described only as a 54-year-old Port Angeles woman, and her 10-year-old passenger were hospitalized after the incident.
Updated condition reports weren’t available Monday. The other three occupants of the second vehicle were uninjured.
Troopers continue to investigate the incident, and car accident reports do not say whether authorities know what caused the crash. However, investigators do not believe intoxicants, such as drugs or alcohol, were contributing factors.
No charges or citations in connection to the crash have been announced by the Washington State Patrol.
