Calls were made to authorities, prompting responding officers to arrive swiftly at the crash scene. They found the victim underneath a Honda sedan along the right shoulder of the freeway. The medics tried their best to revive him, but their efforts were futile, and he died at the scene of the crash.

The driver of the vehicle that struck Gonzalez remained at the scene of the accident and helped the authorities with their investigations by giving answers to the questions they asked. The California Highway Patrol asks that anyone with valuable information that would help in the investigations should contact their California East Area office.

According to accident reports, the state of California has the highest rate of accident occurrences in the United States. The state also has the highest accident mortality rate in the country.

This high rate is linked with the high population density present in California. Authorities always ask drivers to maintain caution when they are on the road and also drive carefully. Law enforcement officers also lookout for unruly drivers who flout traffic regulations, and constitute a nuisance to other road users.
