Police at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday attempted to stop a vehicle that allegedly was driving with expired registration tags. The driver was identified as Stone, a gang member who was on probation for federal convictions, according to car accident reports.

Stone fled the scene, barreling down Fresno streets at speeds greater than 100 mph, according to police. He ultimately sped through a red light at the intersection of North Palm and East Clinton avenues, colliding with Huckabee’s vehicle, car accident reports state.

Neither Huckabee nor Stone survived the crash. Both were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.

“The Fresno Police Department Collision Reconstruction Unit responding to investigate the collision and located a loaded, fully automatic assault rifle in the trunk of the suspect vehicle,” authorities wrote in a press release, adding later, “Stone is a known gang member and has an extensive criminal history with several evading and weapons charges. He was on federal probation at the time of the collision.”
