The Mayor and another unidentified person were on board the small aircraft, and the second passenger survived. Kirby died at the scene, but the report did not state the extent of the injuries that killed him or the cause of death.
Auburn assistant Mayor, Matthew Spokely, said in a press release that the city received the death of their leader with a heavy heart. He added that they are united in their loss, and are shocked and saddened by the news of Kirby’s tragic death.
The Placer County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are collaborating on the investigation into the plane crash. The public will receive updates once they have more information.
A single-engine plane crash occurs for different reasons, as seen in accident reports. The reasons for the accidents range from pilot error to mechanical failure, and adverse weather conditions. The latter is responsible for about 13% of all plane crashes.
Other factors are sabotage and unforeseen factors that the pilot or airline authorities could not envision. Regulating bodies advise pilots to avoid errors while flying and ensure that the aircraft is appropriately maintained before and after flights.
