The deceased was traveling on a red 2002 Honda motorcycle when he lost control, struck the inside barrier separating the north and south lanes, and was ejected from the bike. Bell sustained severe wounds and was pronounced dead by the medics at the scene.

The police, while investigating further uncovered that the motorcycle the deceased was riding was stolen. The APD has asked anyone with relevant information to contact the Austin Police Department’s Vehicular Homicide Unit with the listed number.

The crash is the 26th fatal traffic crash in Austin this year. Motorcycle accidents often result in death because of the exposed nature of the bike. Riders have little or no covering for when their bodies hit the ground.

The injuries sustained, as seen in accident reports, range from traumatic brain injuries (TBI) to broken bones in the upper and lower body. Others are internal bleeding, road rash, or fractures.

Authorities have advised motorcyclists to exercise precaution while riding; ensure that they have a helmet fastened adequately to their heads and wear protective clothing.
