The officer had his lights and sirens on when he suddenly lost control of his 2019 Dodge Charger patrol car. He sustained minor injuries while the front of the vehicle was extremely dented. Chambers said that Jackson would not get cited as he was in the line of duty when the accident occurred.
The trooper also noted that the emergency nature of the call and the rainfall could have contributed to the man losing control of the cruiser. The officer was responding to a call at Parker’s on Ocean, a convenience store.
A man identified as Jacob Exum Hills, 42, of St. Simons Island, had allegedly waved a gun at an unidentified person. The weapon turned out to be fake, and when police arrived at the scene, they found the suspect sitting on a bench with the toy gun beside him.
The report of the car accident also stated that the police, after interviewing Hills and the store owner, took him into custody at about 9:40 p.m. They booked him into the Glynn County Detention Center and charged him with criminal trespass.
