While the officers were going to the scene, another call came in that two vehicles drove away from the area. The deputies then pulled a car over at Hancock and Parkland avenues and detained the officers.

Within minutes of apprehending the two, a call came in about a crash in the area of Sunnymead Ranch Parkway and Perris Boulevard.  The officers found a white Dodge Charger when they got to the scene. Lewis, who was driving the vehicle, crashed it after receiving multiple gunshot wounds.

The paramedics took Lewis to the local hospital, where he died of his injuries. One of the men apprehended at the traffic stop, Jayvonte Wilkinson, 24, of Moreno Valley, was established as a suspect.

The police arrested Wilkinson on suspicion of murder. They booked him into the Robert Presley Detention Center on Wednesday. The accident remains under investigation, and anyone with information should contact the sheriff’s office.

Accident reports help the police respond and arrive at accident scenes on time. California authorities have asked residents of the state to file reports on time, and call in every crash they witness.
