The woman died at the scene from the injuries she sustained, and an unidentified boy who was a passenger in Martinez’s car also passed away. The male driver sustained severe injuries, but he lived and was taken to the hospital by the paramedics.

Two other passengers in the vehicle identified as Sandra C. Saucedo and Augusto L. Martinez also survived with severe injuries. The condition of the men is unknown at the time of this report.

The crash led the California Highway Patrol to close down Highway 16 for several hours while it conducted a preliminary investigation. The cause of the collision remains elusive, and the CHP does not know if drugs or alcohol played a role.

Accidents aren’t uncommon in California and happen for different reasons. The latter ranges from over speeding, drug or alcohol usage by a driver before going behind the wheel, to distracted driving.

Other common causes of an accident include adverse weather conditions like snow, rain, or fog. Bad road condition, tailgating, making a turn too fast, running red lights, and ignoring traffic signs are also contributing factors.
