The impact threw the lawman off his bike, and he sustained minor injuries. Paramedics then took Wasson to Augusta University Hospital where he received treatment and was later discharged.

The sheriff’s office said the deputy is now recovering at home, and the investigation into the crash remains an open case as they put the pieces together.

Accidents occur in the twinkle of an eye, and it takes about 3 seconds after a driver takes his eyes off the road for a collision to occur. Most vehicle-versus-motorcycle crashes are fatal, with the motorcyclist ending up as the victim.

The open nature of the bike leaves the rider exposed in a collision. The motorcyclist often sustains severe blunt force trauma that begins from the point the body connects with the car until the affected person lands on the ground.

Some common motorcycle injuries include trauma to the brain, broken or fractured bones, and internal bleeding. Authorities have advised bikers to exercise extreme caution while riding, and always ensure they have on safety coverings.

A motorcyclist should always have his or her helmet fastened, and driving at the legal speed limit is also vital to prevent accidents and fatalities.
