The preliminary investigation uncovered that 23-year-old Aaron Barbosa-Valerio was driving northbound in a 2004 Dodge Ram pickup truck. He was driving too fast for the road conditions at the time and ended up going into the southbound lanes.

The truck ended up striking a southbound driving 2020 Buick Enclave driven by 65-year-old Rucker Steven Murry. There was one passenger in the vehicle at the time of the accident with Murry. As a result of the accident, 66-year-old Cynthia Murry was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by Judge Betterton.

The woman’s body was transported from the scene to Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer.

Murry, the driver, was transported by emergency medical services to Longview Regional, where he was listed as being in serious condition from the accident.

Barbosa-Valerio was taken to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview. His condition was not released in the report. There was no mention in the report if anything other than speed was considered to be a factor in the accident.

The accident is currently still under investigation, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. At this time, no charges have been filed.
