A pedestrian accident occurred in Victorville on the afternoon of Monday, March 9, on Luna Road. At approximately 4:32 p.m. 89-year-old Manuel Fernandez of Victorville was crossing Luna Road at Princeton Drive.
The Victorville Police were called to the scene shortly after Mr. Fernandez had attempted to cross Luna Road.

According to the reports that were prepared at the scene of the accident, 70-year-old Myrtle Meggs was driving eastbound on Luna Road in a white Chrysler minivan at the same time Mr. Fernandez was crossing Luna Road going southbound on Princeton Drive.
The minivan struck the man in the intersection.
Ms. Meggs explained to the police that she did not see Mr. Fernandez crossing the street when she went through the intersection.
Paramedics arrived on the scene to evaluate the victim. They had to airlift Mr. Fernandez to a local trauma center due to the severity of the injuries that he sustained in the accident. There was no mention if Ms. Meggs had to be taken for evaluation of injuries or not.
Mr. Fernandez died at the hospital while they were trying to treat his injuries from the accident. The specifics of his injuries were not released to the public.
Impairment did not seem to be a factor in the accident. There has not been any mention as to Ms. Meggs receiving citations or charges regarding the accident. She did stay at the scene and cooperated fully with the police when they questioned her.
The Victorville Police Department is still investigating the accident.
