When officers got to the scene of the accident, they found 55-year-old Jesus Meza laying in the middle of Orosi. The man was only steps away from the First Pentecostal Church of Orosi. It is unclear if that was the intended destination of Meza or if he was simply walking around the neighborhood.
Witnesses told the California Highway Patrol that Meza was walking in the area when he was hit by the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle took off south, but currently remains on the loose.
The California Highway Patrol has not released a description of the vehicle or the driver. They are hoping that homes or businesses in the area that utilize video surveillance can assist them in providing a video description of the vehicle so that they may then be able to identify a driver.
The investigation into the accident is currently ongoing.
Meza was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. They have not released information describing the full extent of his injuries.
Anyone who may have information regarding this fatal accident is urged to call the Visalia California Highway Patrol Office at 559-734-6767.
