Mesa was struck first and thrown into a desert area. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The 37-year-old woman he was walking with was hit by the left-side mirror of the truck and was knocked into the roadway. She sustained moderate injuries in the accident. Emergency personnel transported her from the scene of the accident to University Medical Center for treatment of the injuries she sustained.

The driver of the Dodge was only identified as a 60-year-old. According to the police, the driver did not show any signs of impairment at the scene of the accident.

Mesa’s body was taken and examined at the Clark County Coroner’s Office. The coroner concluded that Mesa died of blunt force trauma. Given the manner of death, it has been ruled as an accident.

No other updates have been released concerning the name or the recovery status of the female involved in the accident. There has not been any indication that charges will be filed.
