The Robinson family from Portsmouth, Virginia never made it home from their family trip this last weekend. Police were called to the scene of an accident on Sunday, February 23, around 2:00 a.m. on I-95 in Midway.

Before the accident occurred, the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office issued a “lookout advisory” for the 77-year-old man driving the Lexus. There had been reports that it was driving the wrong way in the northbound lanes.

Then the police were called to the scene of an accident where the Lexus had hit a Nissan Rogue SUV head-on. Inside the Nissan was a family who was on their way home from a weekend trip.

Police identified the occupants of the Nissan as the Robinson family. 41-year-old Sara, 37-year-old Nathan, and three children- Stephen, Rebecca, and Alexander. The children ranged in age from 4 to 14. Extended family members could not remember the exact birth years for the children.

The family and the driver of the Lexus were all pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Firefighters had to extract all of the victims from the vehicles.

The Georgia State Patrol has not released the identity of the driver of the Lexus. They are still trying to reach his next of kin. The man was traveling and had Florida plates on the Lexus.

Investigators do not believe that the driver of the Lexus was under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol at the time of the accident. They are not sure why he was driving southbound in the northbound lanes, to begin with.

A portion of I-95 had to be shut down for approximately 3 hours to allow for reconstruction and cleanup of the accident.

Investigators are still looking into the cause of the accident. More updates will be released as they are made public.
