Gloria M. Sanchez-Perez was killed Friday, Feb. 14, 2020, after being struck by a car while running across the interstate following a single-car crash.
Sanchez-Perez, 24, of Des Plaines, Illinois, was traveling with 26-year-old Kinga A. Pieniadz, of Elk Grove Village in a Toyota Prius. The women were traveling west on Interstate 290. Authorities say the vehicle was going faster than the posted speed limit.

The accident happened near Schaumburg Road around 11 p.m., according to Illinois State Police District 2.
The Toyota Prius then left the highway and ended up hitting a guardrail. The car then came to rest in the ditch on the right side of the road.
Both of the women got out of the car. They then ran across the westbound lanes of the interstate to the left side of the road. Pieniadz made it all of the way across. However, a gold Toyota Camry struck Sanchez-Perez as she was trying to make it across.
When the first responders arrived on the scene, they transported Sanchez-Perez to a hospital. She then died there, according to the police.
The car that struck Sanchez-Perez was driven by a 37-year-old man from Chicago. However, his identity has not yet been released. The police also did not say who was driving the Toyota Prius.
The investigation is still continuing. Illinois State Police District 2 is handling the investigation. As of now, no charges have been filed.
