Bakersfield police responded to a call at 9:20pm where they discovered the man’s body laying in the street. The driver of the second vehicle stayed on the scene to assist in the investigation of the original driver who fled the scene.

A description of the vehicle—a silver Kia Rio. model year 2011-2019, missing a windshield wiper and a driver-side mirror—helped lead to the arrest. Mata is being charged with felony hit-and-run causing a death. Authorities urge anyone with further information to call Bakersfield Police.
