BAKERSFIELD, CA – A tip reported to the Kern Secret Witness Line identified 24-year-old Edith Mata in connection to a deadly hit-and-run fatality that took place in September of 2019.
23 ABC News reports the incident occurred in the 1000 block of Kentucky Street where a man was hit and killed while riding his bike. It wasn’t until a second vehicle ran over his body that the authorities were called.

Bakersfield police responded to a call at 9:20pm where they discovered the man’s body laying in the street. The driver of the second vehicle stayed on the scene to assist in the investigation of the original driver who fled the scene.
A description of the vehicle—a silver Kia Rio. model year 2011-2019, missing a windshield wiper and a driver-side mirror—helped lead to the arrest. Mata is being charged with felony hit-and-run causing a death. Authorities urge anyone with further information to call Bakersfield Police.
