LOS ANGELES, CA – Three men were charged with staging highway accidents in Los Angeles county this week, local news reports.
The suspects were involved in 15 accident that the district attorney’s office believe to have been faked. The accidents all occurred between January and September 2020 in Los Angeles and Orange County.

The accident followed a similar pattern. The men would be in an older vehicle and identify a target that they believed had insurance, often a commercial vehicle. They would then cut in front of that vehicle and slam on their brakes, intentionally getting rear-ended.
As a result of these accidents 21 people were injured, including 3 who suffered severe injuries. Authorities were alerted to the scam by a California Highway Patrol officer who had received training on how to identify staged accidents.
