The names of the accident victims have not been released at this time. Police are currently investigating to determine the cause of the accident. The accident took place at roughly 10:40 pm.
It took place when the car was approaching a left-hand curve on the highway. Instead of turning left in line with the curve, the car apparently continued straight, driving right into the rock wall in the median.
It is unclear at this time why the driver did not continue with the curve of the road and instead crashed into the median. No other cars were involved in the accident. So, it appears that the driver may have made a mistake, may have been distracted, or possibly even had a medical event happen which impaired driving.
The interstate was closed while police conducted their investigations to try to identify the cause of the accident. However, it was reopened after they finished their work and after all of the debris from the accident was cleared.
