Nolan Colman, a four-year-old from Euless, TX, and the rest of his family were traveling along Highway 183 near Main Street around 8 p.m. on January 24, 2020, when their SUV stalled in the left-hand lane. Moments later, their SUV was rear-ended by another vehicle traveling in the same lane, injuring the family and later killing Nolan after he made it to the hospital.
Ashley Burse, Nolan’s mother and the driver of the SUV, talked about the accident from her wheelchair she was still using days after the accident. She stated that she had tried to call for help prior to the accident. When she looked into the mirror, she could see the approaching vehicle and it was not slowing down.

After telling her four children to hold on she braced herself for the rear-end impact. Following the accident, she noticed that the rear-end of her SUV was smashed all the way to the second-row seats and immediately began trying to check on her children.
Burse had called out to Nolan after the accident, but he did not respond to her. She was informed later that he had not made it.
The Texas Department of Transportation does not keep any records on the number of rear-end collisions that occur each year in the state, however, nationwide the number of rear-end collisions is estimated at 1.7 million rear-end collisions per year on the national level.
There was a total of five people injured in the accident including Burse and three of her children and the driver of the other vehicle, who also had an infant riding in the car. The accident is still being investigated. There were currently no charges pending against the driver who rear-ended Burse. That driver is currently still in the hospital in serious, but stable condition.
