Investigators gathered that the cyclist, whom officers identified as William Roybal, 25, was riding north on Mirror Street. For reasons still under investigation, the motorcyclist let his bike drift sideways, and strike a guard rail mounted near the 600 block of Mirror Street. Roybal got thrown off his bike as a result.
He sustained fatal injuries, which he succumbed to before he could receive transportation to a hospital. Investigative findings suggest the accident victim may have been riding alone at the time of the collision, and no other vehicle or road user was involved.
Officers are yet to establish what caused the motorcyclist to hit the guard rail. Possible causes include speed, drugs or alcohol intoxication, distraction, mechanical faults, or an unforeseen road hazard. Investigators would look into all these factors, and release their findings in updated reports.
The Amarillo Police Department’s Traffic Investigation Unit is heading the investigation.
A motorcycle attorney representing the victim’s family can uncover additional details about the crash by conducting an independent probe.
