The accident occurred directly across from the Walmart Distribution Center. Initial investigation concluded that Meunnink had lost control of the motorcycle (reasons are still unknown) and was hit by two oncoming cars.
Muennink was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and there was no indication that drugs or alcohol played a part in the accident. It was also later concluded that Muennink had not been speeding either.
Police ended up closing down the area for over four hours that morning to fully investigate the accident. No other additional information was found regarding the accident.
Neither driver of the vehicles that struck the fallen motorcycle rider sustained any injuries. The drivers are not facing any charges at this time for the accident. The statute of limitations in Texas is two years from when the accident occurred.
The Texas Department of Transportation requires helmets for motorcyclists who are under 21 years of age. A rider/driver is not required to wear one if they are over the age of 21 if they have successfully completed a motorcycle safety course or they have purchased acceptable insurance coverage for the motorcycle.
The state also requires motorcycle riders to complete a safety course prior to issuing their Class M driver’s license. It is recommended that additional classes be taken to help with what to do in situations where an accident could occur. The state has a statewide campaign regarding motorcycle safety.
