BAKERSFIELD, CA – Officials with the California Highway Patrol have identified the truck driver and motorcyclist involved in a fatal Saturday afternoon collision.
According to KBAK, 66-year-old Clarence Cabitt Canaan was riding his motorcycle on Highway 65 near Merced Ave at about 2:45 p.m. when he attempted to pass a freightliner. In the process of passing, Canaan’s motorcycle collided with the left rear wheel of the tractor-trailer.

Canaan was ejected from his motorcycle and pronoucned deceased at the scene of the crash. The driver of the truck remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investiation.
Drugs and alcohol are not expected to have played a role in the crash.
