A 2013 Honda Civic was driving northbound on U.S. 395 just north of Lower Rock Creek Road at a rate of about 65 miles per hour on Thursday, March 5. For reasons that have yet to be determined, the car lost control and left the road.
After leaving the road, the car became airborne. It finally landed in a dried-up creek bed according to the California Highway Patrol.

The driver of the Honda was identified as 23-year-old Tyler Nollen, who was extricated from the scene of the accident along with 21-year-old Claudia Ramirez from Peru.
A third passenger was also in the vehicle, but their name has not been released. They are only identified as a 31-year-old passenger that was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
All three of the vehicle occupants were trapped inside the vehicle following the accident. Nollen and Ramirez were removed from the vehicle and sustained extremely serious injuries. They were taken to Mammoth Lakes Hospital according to the California Highway Patrol’s report.
Several first responders were not on duty that came to assist with the accident scene. The Mono County Sheriff’s Office, Mammoth Lakes Fire Department, Wheeler Crest Volunteer Fire Department, Symons Ambulance, and the California Department of Transportation are all being credited with their assistance at this accident scene.
Nollen’s grandmother, Linda Glawson, has taken to social media with updates on her grandson. According to an initial post about the accident, Nollen’s injuries are a lot worse than initially released.
According to the post, Nollen sustained a head injury, broken back, and two collapsed lungs. She revealed no other information about those who were in the vehicle with him.
The latest update that she posted on social media indicated that they are keeping Nollen in an induced coma while he recovers. He has shown signs of reflex in his limbs, so it is possible that he is not paralyzed.
More procedures will be performed to help reduce brain injuries.
The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the circumstances and possible causes of the accident.
