Thirty-two days into the new year, an unidentified male pedestrian became the 14th traffic death in Las Vegas’ metro area in 2020.
A 2014 Honda CRV struck and killed the 67-year-old man as he walked across Las Vegas Boulevard Saturday, Feb. 1. The accident happened near South Point Casino, on the 9700 block of Las Vegas Boulevard.

The nearest cross street is W. Le Baron Avenue. Reports noted the nonfunctioning streetlights on both sides of the street.
Reports stated the victim left the South Point Casino and crossed the road to the east. The victim allegedly crossed in the roadway about 100 yards away from a marked cross walk.
The driver traveled northbound and didn’t see the victim as the victim closed in on the opposite side of the street. The driver’s right side of the vehicle struck the pedestrian. Witnesses called in the accident at about 9:35 p.m.
Two Nevada Highway Patrol troopers witnessed the accident from the Boulevard Bar & Grille. They provided first aid until medical help arrived.
Medical personnel transported the victim to University Medical Center.
The driver cooperated and remained on the scene.
The 12th and 13th deaths occurred on the same day when a black 2018 Dodge Challenger hit a silver 2017 Hyundai Elantra head on. The accident happened about 11 a.m. on Saturday on S. Fort Apache near W. Tompkins Avenue.
The driver of the Challenger traveled northbound on S. Fort Apache and allegedly crossed the center lane striking the Hyundai. Authorities pronounced the two Hyundai occupants dead at the scene. They have been identified as Barbara Brender, 69, and Mariann Quinones, 58. The Challenger driver, Walter Maccarron, 78, went to University Medical Center in critical condition. Impairment is not suspected in the crash.
