After leaving the roadway, Barron struck a white Nissan Sentra that was preparing to exit a private driveway. He continued driving and ended up hitting a fence and two pedestrians.
The pedestrians were standing outside of a silver Buick SUV at the time of the accident. One of the pedestrians has been identified as 68-year-old Oneida Guerra of Roma.
She was taken from the scene of the accident to a nearby hospital. While at the hospital receiving treatment for her injuries, she died due to the severe nature of the injuries she sustained.
The Texas Department of Public Safety escorted Barron from the scene of the accident to the Starr County Jail. There he was charged with manslaughter and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Authorities believe that Barron was distracted by his phone at the time of the accident. They did not find anything to suggest impairment, only distraction.
As of Sunday afternoon, Starr County Jail records indicated that Barron had not posted bail for release.
An investigation into the accident is currently still being done by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
